So, I'm leaving for the office yesterday morning and, as I get into my truck, a buzzer reminds me that my seat belt is not fastened. I then make my morning routine stop at the local convenient store to buy coffee and cigarettes (Yes I smoke. A bad habit, but hey I pay the taxes on them). A message on the coffee cup reads "Caution Contents Are Very Hot". As the clerk hands me my cigarettes, another warning appears on the label. This one is from the Surgeon General warning me that smoking can be hazardous to my health.
Heeding all of the warning labels, and listening to my truck, once again, telling me that the law requires me to wear my seat belt, I continue my trip to the office. On the way, I encounter two traffic light cameras. Yes, those little money makers installed in Knox County just in case you decide to fudge a little on that complete stop while local law enforcement officers are taking that hourly donut break.
It's not even 6:30 AM and already, I've been reminded six times that my government knows more about what's best for me than I do. Sad part about this is that more that 50% of the voting population in this country agree with this fact or at least they did 2 years ago.
At what point did we stop being held accountable for our own well being and pass that control onto the government? Just food for thought!
