Here of late, their has been a lot of discussion concerning red light and speeding cameras being used as a source of revenue for local municipalities. Here, In Knoxville, TN, 13 cameras located throughout the city generated $3.1 million in fines in 2010. The city government received $1.1million of these revenues and the company that owns the equipment and network received $2 million.
Funny thing is, that the citation that are issued for these infraction do not go on your driving record nor do any points, against your license get imposed. The payment of these fines is not even enforced by local law enforcement.
Is this just another tactical money grab and added tax or do they actually promote a safer driving environment? Let me know what you think!
